As a PTA we want to provide you quick and easy access to relevant information regarding the Corona Virus (COVID-19) and keep you current on the district's updates and decisions.
Dear Magnolia Elementary Families,
I want to reach out and connect with you all during this uncertain time. Hopefully, you all received the communication (e-mail and phone call) from Seattle Public Schools today notifying families that schools will be closed starting tomorrow. I know that this causes a hardship for many families, and I am sorry for this.
Today, I heard from many of our parents who expressed concern about the impact this closure will have on some of our families and offered to help. If your family needs support, please reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can connect you with these parents.
Take care of yourselves and your precious children.

COVID-19 symptoms include a fever of 100 degrees, cough, and/or difficulty breathing. If a student presents these symptoms while at school, they will be immediately removed to a quarantined space in the school, while continuing to be monitored by an adult. A family member or emergency contact will be called to pick them up. They will be unable to ride the school bus or public transportation home.
We recognize this may cause anxiety and fear for our students and we will do our best to address any concerns. We are committed to ensuring students are supported with love, compassion, and care.
If a staff person exhibits symptoms, they will be asked to leave school and call their healthcare provider immediately. We will monitor the staff person’s health conditions as appropriate.

As a PTA we have several events planned for the next couple of weeks. At this point we are following the district's guidance to minimize all risk. In alignment with the school we choose to cancel or postpone school-based events in order to focus resources on keeping the schools clean and healthy. As a result we are postponing Magic Night on April 1st and will refund those that already purchased tickets online.
Custodial staff must be prioritized for daily cleaning in our schools and after-hours events present an additional challenge to this commitment.
In our first Magnolia Elementary School meeting the students voted on the school mascot and chose the Orcas as their spirit animal.
And we decided to name our PTA Newsletter "Orca Tales". If you missed it you can find it here in our Newsletter archive:
The Magnolia Chamber of Commerce / Discover Magnolia came by for a visit. Here are some of the pictures!
"Queen Anne & Magnolia News" reports on the school opening this fall and dives deep on highlights and needs. Take a look at their report coming out of the 6/11 parent meeting and an interview with principal Cryan Leary.
Enrollment season is here. This is relevant for incoming Kindergarten families as well as 5th grade parents with kids leaving MES. Enrollment information is available here.
